reflection

       In this director project, we performed a songalogue between me and Medgar, directed by Mao.

       In the director's vision, Mao converted the solo part into a dialogue happened between a man and a woman. The initial song wants to show frustration that the character which is a woman went through. In our version, we try to connect two characters together. They are in a relationship, but they have the similar experience with life and self-conscience so they can relate to each other. Our blocking is good. At first, both of us sit on the chairs. When I start speaking, I stand up and walk forwards. When the conflict starts, I face Medgar and our blockings are focused in the center at the stage. After this part, we disperse to the left downstage and right downstage. Briefly, we use the stage fully. Furthermore, the lighting helps a lot. During the first scene, the lights focus on me. When Medgar speaks, the middle light appears. The light is dim and focus which attracts audience’s attention to the character while building the somber atmosphere.

       However, we still need to be improved. Firstly, our articulation is not good enough. We should be louder than usual so that the audiences can hear us clearly. When the part that we finish others sentences, we should be more emotional to show the different layers of emotion. What is more, maybe we can use sounds to improve our performance. Because of the setting, we can use the sound of the crowded restaurant as the background music to contradict with us, showing our loneliness.
