technical theatre reflection
Our group worked on the piece of City of Stars. I devoted to my group as the directer as well as the sound management. As a director, I designed the lightings, sounds and settings with my group memebers. For the lighting, we decided to make the light focus on the character, lighting up before the character appears and fading out after the performance is finished. As for the sound, we want the audiences to focus on the lines that the character express so the sound of dizzy rain is appraoriate not only it sets the scene in the rainy day, but also helps buliding a upset atmosphere. From this experience, I have learnt that a perfect performace can not be accomplished by only the actors or actresses but with the contribution of stage crews.
The stage scene of our group is amazing, the actress expresses the turn of the emotion of the character fully through projecting, blockings and facial expressions. Initially, the character was confused so she used a low voice. When she realized that the love is strong, she stepped forward and projected with a high and enthusiastic sound. What's more, the sound and lighting also contributed to build the atmosphere and exaggerated the emotions of the character. However, we still have a lot of aspects to improve. We can apply props in our performance and make the setting more specific like in a crowded rectaurant. The lighting can also be more changeable, for example, the light is dim and scattered at first, when the character become inspired, the light focus on her and becomes bright.
Mao's group did a really wonderful job at setting, they fully used the space and created a their own stage which is amazing. Also, they use guitar as the back groud music to show the emotion of the character. Jeff's group created a performance with different scenes happened on the same stage, using two focused lights to distinguish them which is terrific. From my perspective, I think it can be better when one group of people was acting the light of the other part can be dark which helps the audiences to concentrate on one part of acting.
