Reflections About Theaters

What is a theater?
From my perspective, theatre is a place for people who interested in drama, acting, directing to express themselves and for people who appreciate dramatic arts to enjoy and immerse in the artistic atmosphere.

What makes it good to participate in, to perform, or to watch?
It is good to participate in theatre, for the reason that only when you immerse in that circumstances, you can  understand better. As an actor, he or she can stand in the character’s shoe to think and act as if he or she is just the role, which enables people to comprehend the theme expressed by the author more profoundly. While watching a theatre seems to be a entertainment, however, it establishes a connection between performers and audiences. The performers try to make audiences understand the theme or feel a kind of emotion by body movements, facial expressions or reading lines while audiences set themselves in the circumstances that the performers created, trying to comprehend as the best as they can.

Why do people do theatre or watch it or like it?
Some people may do or watch theatre for fun, for the reason that they enjoy acting or appreciating others performance. Others may consider theatre as a way to express their feelings or opinions. When they feel bad about something, they can criticize in the character’s shoes. Also, doing theatre satisfies people’s imagination. For example, when the idea of ideal society cannot come true, they do a theatre about the society conditions that they dreamed about to accomplish their desires of it.

Why do I like theatre?
From my perspective, theatre actually can reveal the truth that people are not aware of in an artistic way. As a famous saying goes, “arts always come from life.” We can utilize theatre as a symbol to reminder people what problems are existed without direct offence.

What aspects of theatre are most important for performers to learn and think about?
As an actor, he or she needs to remember that there is no small character in a theatre. Some people may think that their characters do not have that much lines or actions so that they can take it easily. However, no matter how less the lines or actions are, actors still have to study the characters and consider how to act thoroughly, because every character in the show have their own characteristics and the theatre only succeed when every actor devoted into it. What is more, even a short scene need to be investigated entirely, actor can express the thoughts of the role by using facial expressions, body movements etc.

What is easy and fun about theatre and what is the most challenging.
As for me, the most intriguing part of theatre is that you can appreciate different cultures in different periods through analyzing their theatre show. For example, the Greek theatre varies a lot from the theatre created by Shakespeare, because in the ancient Greece, people believed in myths so that almost all of their theatre related to gods, while in the time that Shakespeare lived, people diverted their attention to social problems so that their works were more relevant to the society. While the most challenging part for me of theatre is acting, because I need to fully put myself in the shoe of character, however, when acting among a large number of audiences, it is hard for me to achieve that. Briefly, learning history evolution is the most interesting part while acting is the most demanding aspect.
