reflections about monolouges
During the practice of the monologue, I have learnt a lot about performing. First of all, never be nervous when you act before others. When I was performed the first draft, I was worry about whether my lines are too naive or my actions may be embarrassing, however, after overcoming the embarrassment, I realized that performing is good while being unnatural before audiences is awkward. Furthermore, I understood the importance of designing blockings and gestures. Every movements that I make on the stage have to be purposeful, only when I consider them before acting, can the performance be more convincing.
What is more, there are some aspects that I did well including remembering all the lines and having emotional changes during my performance. Reciting lines is the basic skill of acting, it is also the base that support me to add emotions, blockings and gestures in it. Having emotional changes presents in the change between mocking at my little sister and asking help from dad in my monologue. I tried to express that through the decreasing in voice and huddling myself up.
Last but not least, there is still a lot that I need to improve in my future performance. For example, I need to consider about blocking more creatively. Although my story happened when I sat on the bed, I still need to add more actions like putting my legs on the bed or hide myself with a quilt when I felt afraid in order to convey my character more explicitly. Besides, I have to add more pauses in my performances to make it more natural and persuasive. Sometimes when I was nervous, I speak faster than normal which is disadvantageous, so I need to overcome that.
